We are moving towards the end of winter and soon it will be warm enough to show off some skin and play outside.
After surviving the cold, dry air, the skin tends to be fragile, so post-winter skincare is vital to ensure that your skin transitions well to adjust to the warm weather.
Below are some tips to prepare your skin from winter to summer.
Extra hydration
In summer, our bodies tend to lose a lot of weather due to sweating. Loss of water means less hydration for the skin.
To replenish the moisture to your skin, aim for at least eight glasses of water a day, and try to incorporate hydrating foods like watermelon and cucumber into your diet.
Remove dead skin
In winter, people apply thick layers of moisturiser to keep their skin as healthy as possible. This can sometimes cause dead skin, and as we lean towards summer, it’s time to remove it by scrubbing with gloves or a brush, and exfoliating body wash.
Be careful not to over-scrub your skin as it may cause irritation.
Step outside
If you spent most of your time indoors this winter, now is the time to go outside. Exposing your skin to the sun for at least 10 minutes will help absorb all the vitamin D and UV light it needs to be protected against bacteria and viruses.
Don’t forget to apply sunscreen before exposing your skin to the sun.
Exercise
Working out will not only help tighten your skin but also improve its overall appearance and texture. Exercise at least three times a week to increase your blood circulation, thus helping your skin stay healthy.
Eat right
Most people eat a lot of junk food in winter. With spring coming up, you must change your diet and eat more vegetables and fruits for your skin to have that luminous glow throughout the season.
