THE eThekwini Municipality has advised residents, who have taken out their refuse to retrieve it and keep it on their properties following a disruption in waste collection and street sweeping services.
In a media statement, the city said this was due to the former Extended Public Works Programme participants having resorted to blocking gates in different depots and intimidating staff and refuse collection contractors.
“This has made it impossible for a normal collection of refuse to take place. Several areas have been affected by this disruption. Security personnel have been alerted of the situation at hand,” said the statement.
"The eThekwini Municipality requests residents not to take out their refuse until further notice. Those who have taken out their refuse are requested to retrieve it and keep it on their properties.”
