A family is seeking closure following the discovery of their loved one's decomposing body.
Rakesh Shane Ganesh was reported missing on November 17 and his body was found five days later at his rented home in Ridge Road, Umhlanga.
His bronze in colour Mercedes Benz E-Class was also not found at the time.
Ganesh's uncle Tony Singh, said it has been a traumatic time for the family.
"There are so many unanswered questions. Shane was from Pietermaritzburg and had been living in Durban for more than six months. The family became concerned when his cousin and his daughters were unable to get a hold of him.
His vehicle was also missing so it was presumed that he was not at home.
"We want to know more about his last whereabouts and get answers as to what happened. Shane was kind-hearted, gentle and always ready to assist," said Singh.
Tyron Powell of Marshall Security said they were contacted last week Friday by the Umhlanga UIP (Urban Improvement Precinct) after their inspector was flagged down by a resident on Ridge Road, Umhlanga reporting a foul smell coming from another tenant’s room.
"During the inspection, a grim discovery was made. The tenant’s body was found wrapped in blankets under the bed," said Powell.
Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, police spokesperson, said Durban North police were investigating a case of murder following the discovery of the 53-year-old's decomposing body.
Ngcobo said Ganesh was reported missing on November 17 and was allegedly found at his house on Ridge Road, Umhlanga on November 22.
Ganesh's funeral took place on Tuesday at the Mountain Rise Crematorium.
