Pietermaritzburg - PIETERMARITZBURG’S premier outdoor art selling exhibition is back and will take place from Thursday until May 2.
The event, returning after two years of lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will hold its 58th instalment of Art in the Park at the Natal Botanical Gardens.
Dumasi Mhlongo, the Director of Pietermaritzburg Tourism, said they were committed to delivering a high quality event, that was safe, exciting and fulfilling in an environment where all Covid19 protocols will be followed.
“The Art in the Park festival plays an important role in the lives of many local artists besides the fact that it is a key event on the city calendar.
“One of the objectives of the Art in the Park festival is to expose artists that would otherwise never have the opportunity. Many artists can testify to our efforts in this regard”.
The event has grown over the years from a few local artists exhibiting with oil paints, sculptures and pottery to becoming one of the country’s leading art exhibitions.
Kevin Palium, CEO of Creative Arts College, described this year’s event as the “chicken soup” for Pietermaritzburg and KwaZulu-Natal.
“This magical event has the potential to bring people together once again, it has the potential to stimulate the economy, especially as a much-needed platform for South African artists,” said Palium.
Exhibitions will be held from 10am to 10pm from Thursday, April 28 to Sunday and 10am to 4pm on Monday, May 2.
Tickets can be purchased at the venue or from the Pietermaritzburg Tourism office. For more information call 033 345 0641 or visit the website www.pmbtourism.co.za
