DURBAN - Former Cape Town City defender, Vincent Kobola, has been appointed as an assistant coach to Eric Tinkler at Chippa United. Kobola worked with Tinkler at City where they won the Telkom Knockout and helped the Citizen to finish third on the log.
The 33-year-old retired at the end of last season. He commenced his career back in 2009 at Moroka Swallows. The former hard-tackling defender went on to represent clubs like University of Pretoria, Jomo Cosmos and Mpumalanga Black Aces.
In an exclusive interview with Independent Online, Tinkler revealed that Kobola will assist him at the Chilli Boys. Tinkler took over the reigns at the club on Wednesday. He penned a one year deal with an option to renew with another year. United fired Dan "Dance" Malesela after three games in-charge of the club this season.
"I'm bringing in one person. That is Vincent Kobola. I believe he will add value in to the team. He is the only one that will be added in my technical team. In terms of the players, I still have to conduct some few training session but I think we need to strengthen two positions. The squad has talent, ability and experience. I have turn things around and get results," Tinkler said.
Tinkler has been without a job since last season after leaving SuperSport United. "It wasn't easy to sign for Chippa United. It was long negotiations. Everything was done on Tuesday. My first objective is to take the team out of the bottom of the log. We have the potential of finishing in the Top 8," an ambitious Tinkler explained.
Tinkler has done well in his career as the head coach. He propelled Orlando Pirates in to the final of the Caf Confederation Cup before making a switch to Cape Town City. At City, Tinkler captured the Telkom Knockout crown. Last season he led SuperSport United in to MTN8 glory.
