CAPE TOWN – It’s a pleasure to be a Kaizer Chiefs fan right now.
After weeks of doom and gloom, having been knocked out of the MTN8 in the semi-finals and without a Premiership win after five games, things were rocky for new coach Giovanni Solinas.
But suddenly, things got into motion with the emphatic 4-1 demolition of Cape Town City, which was followed by a 2-0 win over Free State Stars at Goble Park and another victory by the same scoreline against AmaZulu at FNB Stadium.
Despite the injury sustained by Leonardo Castro, Chiefs are banging in the goals, with even defender Siyabonga Ngezana and midfielder Philani Zulu scoring twice, along with star forward Khama Billiat.
Solinas, though, is not getting carried away just yet.
“We dominated the game and created a lot of chances. Everything is positive. However, we have to keep our feet on the ground and continue to work hard to improve even further,” the Italian told the Chiefs website about Saturday night’s win over AmaZulu.
“We started with a handicap because I didn’t really have a pre-season with the squad. Then there were a lot of games – play, play, play.
“The Fifa break helped us to fix some mistakes and to understand the philosophy that I want the team to play to.
“I am happy with the result against AmaZulu, and above all, about the manner we played.
“It wasn’t easy though, as they have a good team and they did well against Mamelodi Sundowns last week. It’s great to win three games in a row, but that should be normal for Kaizer Chiefs.”

The Amakhosi have another mini-break to work on their combinations due to the MTN8 final this weekend between Cape Town City and SuperSport United.
Chiefs’ next match is on October 2 against Highlands Park.
“I am happy about the break because that means that we can work hard to become even better,” Solinas added. “The players show commitment in training and are eager to learn and improve. We just have to continue doing this.
“I am an optimist – our spectators haven’t seen the best of Kaizer Chiefs as yet.”
