Mamelodi Sundowns played a team who called themselves vegetarians, but Jeremy Brockie got his piece of meat with a stunning volley that set up victory in the Caf Champions League on Wednesday.

Masandawana triumphed 2-0 over Leones Vegetarianos in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, with Brockie’s sensational 10th-minute strike backed up by another powerful finish by Themba Zwane in the last quarter.

New Zealand striker Brockie said he wished his goal had been seen on live TV, as – after initially miscuing an attempt that nearly rolled to the corner flag, he was able to make amends seconds later.

New recruit Mosa Lebusa whipped in a left-footed cross, and Brockie backed off to the far end of the box and rifled home a volley with his left boot for a spectacular goal.

“So, I ended up on the left. Mosa swung a nice ball in, and it hung nicely in the sky. And first-time left-foot volley into the far corner,” Brockie said in a post-match video on Sundowns’ Twitter account.

“So, one of those goals that you wish was on TV! But I’m sure the video analysis would’ve caught it for me.

“It was tough conditions. It was hot and humid, but the boys put in a professional performance. Got the job done. Now we just have to make sure that we finish it off at home.”
