Orlando Pirates’ rising star Relebohile Mofokeng is hoping to keep making coach Jose Riveiro proud for the foreseeable future after the Soweto club’s unprecedented third MTN8 title in a row over the weekend.

The 19-year-old midfielder came on as a substitute in the late stages of the trophy match against Stellenbosch FC, created the go ahead goal at 2-1 and also scored Pirates’ third in a frenetic climax to the game which saw them crowned champions at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The young Mofokeng was also at the centre of the controversy with Pirates second goal, providing the assist by executing a clever quick free kick - albeit, from the wrong position.

After going 2-1 down with time just about up, Stellies threw all their players forward which left them exposed at the back.

Moment to remember

In stepped Mofokeng to punish his opponents in a moment he will savour for the rest of his career.

The dancing Mofokeng said he is keen to keep repaying the faith shown in him by Riveiro.

“The only important thing is we work and get along well together, so, I will be happy he stayed for an extended time," Mofokeng said.

"Staying with him is a good thing because he helps us with a lot of things. I would love to stay with him for another season.”

When asked about his impact on the game, the reserved Mofokeng was reluctant to take much credit for the victory.

“It’s not so much they trust me to come in the second half and make things happen but I feel like when I come in, I work for the team on top of the work of the players that started the match. We all worked for the team,” said Mofokeng.

“The players that started are the ones that wore down Stellenbosch for me to come in and do the simple things.”
