AmaZulu secured back-to-back wins as they brushed aside Cape Town City 2-0 at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.

Usuthu jumped up as high as fifth in the Betway Premiership standings after scoring a goal in each half to claim their tenth win of the season. City’s horrid winless run extended to seven games as they suffered their sixth loss in the last seven outings.

January arrival Elmo Kambindu continued his fine start to life in Durban as he opened the scoring for AmaZulu after 23 minutes of early pressure.

The Namibian-born striker scored his third goal for the club as he slid in at the far post to tap home a Tshepang Moremi low cross, who had done well to drive into the box from a long way off.

It took until the second half for Usuthu to get a deserved cushion through another January signing, this time Nkosikhona Radebe the man to arrive late and score the goal.

The full-back scored his second goal in as many games when he flew in at the back post to complete a trio of flick on headers and boosted AmaZulu’s chances of securing three points at home. This tie saw the meeting of two teams in contrasting confidence levels with City reeling having gone six games without a win.

The hosts on the other hand had dispatched Magesi the previous week and wanted to keep their momentum going more especially following the departure of one of their coaches in Vusumuzi Vilakazi. Despite the home side controlling the early possession, it was City that created the first real chance of the game in the sixth minute with Jaedin Rhodes.

The 21-year-old midfielder found himself on the end of a fast break from City but after feint and sending defenders to one side, he fired a weak shot which Richards Ofori gathered easily. From there onwards, the rest of the half went in whatever way Usuthu chose as they terrorised City with their 3-5-2 formation and exposed the wings of the opposition.

At the half time break, AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane would’ve felt slight frustration at his side’s inability to turn their control and chance-creation into more goals on the score board.

On the side of City, it was surprising that coach Muhsin Ertugral did not make any changes at the break after the likes of Thabo Nodada, Kamohelo Mokotjo and Fortune Makaringe warming up shortly before the 45th minute.

However, even with their attempts at rescuing something from the game, City resembled a side low on confidence and did very little to trouble AmaZulu.
