Orlando Pirates have now lost top spot on the Absa Premiership log, and coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic was not a happy man following the goalless draw with Golden Arrows on Wednesday.
Having scored nine goals in their previous four matches – which resulted in three wins and a draw that took them to the top of the standings – Pirates drew a blank at Orlando Stadium.
The Arrows defence stood strong, with only Vincent Pule’s two second-half efforts really troubling the KZN side.
“We prepared very well for the match and knew we are playing against an organised team. I believe that we had the patience to get up. However, we didn’t have enough entrances in the last third of the opponents,” Sredojevic said at the post-match press conference.
“We created chances, but not enough chances, and what we created, we didn’t score. So, from an attacking point, that is something to be corrected.
“Goal-scoring is a shortcoming that we need to really look at and critically analyse. We cannot point fingers. We need to have much faster ball movement in the build-up, so that we are knocking right, left, central.
“When crosses are not coming in enough, or creating something from set-pieces, it’s something that’s a problem.
“In the last two matches we played here, we scored five goals – and we didn’t score today. We need to find that key to open the door of consistency.”
Next up for the Buccaneers are another KZN outfit in AmaZulu, this time at the King Zwelithini Stadium in uMlazi on Saturday night (8.15pm kickoff), and Sredojevic wants to see a response from his players.
AmaZulu will also have a point to prove after being docked six log points by the PSL following a Fifa ruling on a player contract went against them.
“I must give credit to the players as I saw their effort and body language, and trying and giving their best. However, it was not meant to be, and we need to improve. If it’s not enough, we need to dig deeper,” Micho added.
