DURBAN - Lamontville Golden Arrows finally ended their eight game winless streak in all the competitions on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Black Leopards 1-0 to earn their first victory at Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu this season.
Knox Mutizwa's strike made the difference for Abafana Bes'thende. Arrows were winless at home this season having suffered defeats against Mamelodi Sundowns and Bloemfontein Celtic, while sharing the spoils with Chippa United and Polokwane City.
The victory was their second in the season. The first win came against Maritzburg United in the opening fixture of the season at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg. Since then, Arrows have battled to collect full three points in their matches.
On Sunday, Leopards played like a team that was content with a point. They defended deep in their half, hoping to catch Arrows on the break. Abafana Bes'thende were piling attack after attack.
Siboniso Conco was a menace for the Limpopo based side with his pace and trickeries, while Golden Arrows goalkeeper Nkosingiphile Gumede was the spectator between the posts.
The visitors were dealt a major blow early on the match as Jean Munganga was taken off because of an injury and was replaced by Isaac Masia. Arrows also suffered a set back as Danny Veteran got injured in the first half and Nduduzo Sibiya made way for him.
Both sides went in to the interval deadlocked at 0-0. Arrows came close to draw the first blood when Divine Lunga directed his short wide from the target after Sibiya spotted him with a well whipped cross.

The goal finally came for Arrows in the 66th minutes when Mutizwa broke the deadlock following a good work done by Conco on the right and side. Mutizwa showed composure and calmness to put his side in the lead. It was a deserving for Abafana Bes'thende who kept on pushing.
Leopards are still winless away from home. They have collected two points out of the possible 12. SuperSport United put them to sword with a 4-0 thumping and then they earned draws against Highlands Park and Chippa United. Coach at Leopards, Joel Masutha, will be hoping to use this Fifa break to conjure up a winning formular on the road.
