Kaizer Chiefs finally showed the required ruthlessness that they lacked in previous years by firing coach Giovanni Solinas on Friday afternoon.
The Amakhosi made the big call via their Twitter account.
Assistant coach Patrick Mabedi has also been let go.
“Breaking News! Kaizer Chiefs terminate Solinas’ contract. Kaizer Chiefs and coach Giovanni Solinas have mutually agreed to an amicable termination of his contract with immediate effect. We wish him well,” Chiefs tweeted.

Chiefs added on their website: “The club will make further announcements in due course.”
They had played the patience game with previous coach
Steve Komphela, who survived for three seasons despite not bringing any
trophies home to Naturena.
But the Amakhosi hierarchy had waited just five months
before sacking Italian Solinas.
The last straw was the 2-1 defeat to Zanzibar minnows Zimamoto in the Caf
Confederation Cup this week, even though Chiefs still qualified for the next
round on aggregate.
They had suffered consecutive defeats to Orlando Pirates,
while Chiefs are languishing in 11th position on the Premiership log, with just
four victories in 11 games.
Chiefs have yet to announce a replacement for Solinas,
although there have been rumours on social media this week naming former Amakhosi
coach Vladimir Vermezovic and ex-Pirates boss Ruud Krol as possible
candidates.
Former star player Doctor Khumalo is also perennially linked
for a return “home”.
