JOHANNESBURG - Bhongolwethu Jayiya has yet to make the impact expected of him at Kaizer Chiefs, but is still adamant he will dazzle in Amakhosi’s colours. Jayiya is confident he can overcome testing times at Naturena. He joined Amakhosi after leaving Cape Town City two seasons ago.
Jayiya has struggled to command a regular starting at berth at Chiefs. The ever-running and energetic Jayiya featured in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge for Amakhosi as they downed Lamontville Golden Arrows 1-0 at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale this past weekend.
Speaking with the media after the game, Jayiya made it clear that he is not seeking a loan move in his pursuit for regular football. “No man, it is still early for a loan move. I still want to push myself in this club and do my best,” Jayiya said with a smile on his face.
It was hoped that a change of coaches at Chiefs would allow him an opportunity to hit the ground running in 2018/19. But it has been a different story for Jayiya but same script. Amakhosi parted ways with Steve Komphela toward the end of last term and hired Giovanni Solinas as his replacement.
Solinas handed Jayiya a start in the first leg of the MTN8 semi final against SuperSport United, after he featured against Baroka in a 1-1 draw. He was ecstatic about getting the mileage on his legs with the reserve side.
“It was nice to get game time. It was all about doing what the coach instructed us to do. I want to push as hard as possible. At the end of the day it is all about building confidence. As time goes by I will get better,” he said.
Jayiya will have refine his game as quickly as possible, as he has to compete with the likes of Khama Billiat, Lebogang Manyama and Andriamirado “Dax” Andrianarimanana. The 28-year-old has only featured in three matches this season so far and has 14 total appearances for Amakhosi. Jayiya has been a regular throughout his career, during his time with Bidvest Wits, Maritzburg United, Mpumalanga Black Aces to Cape Town City.

“At times you need to sit down and reflect. You’ve always been playing and you’ve always been a regular but you come in to a new team and the team has other players they believe in. I have to keep on working hard and push as much as possible. I must push and give it my all, all the times," Jayiya explained.
“Chiefs have got a different style of play to what I’m used to. You know what I mean - I’m just a person who loves to be on the line and now I have to play inside and as number 10. So that’s another interesting factor I need to bring in to my game, which is actually coming along very nicely. As time goes it will be keep me going," he said.
