CAPE TOWN - The head coach of a major Kenyan soccer team has slammed Kaizer Chiefs for their “illegal” approach of one of his defenders and threatened to report both to Fifa.
Following accusations that Chiefs had approached Godfrey Walusimbi without first contacting his club, the Soweto side confirmed on Monday that Uganda International defender was indeed at Naturena. Now, Dylan Kerr, the head coach of Gor Mahia, has slammed AmaKhosi and Walusimbi and accused the player of letting down his teammates and fans.
“My club will never stand in a player’s way of moving, that’s their philosophy, but what has to be done right is the approach of any player. My issue is that Walusimbi’s agents have acted inappropriately, dishonestly and sneakily,” Kerr told Soccer Laduma.
“Kaizer Chiefs have acted illegally, and they know they have done wrong, but my concern is how a player, my player, thinks that he has the right to just up and go to another team fully knowing that he is contracted to the club.
“This is the second time that he’s acted selfishly, thinking about himself and not his club, the fans, but even more so, his teammates. In CAF (Champions League) he may have contributed to our defeat against Esperance (In March) by not playing, and now - with us needing three wins to retain the league title, and we also have the Confederation Cup still to qualify – he’s taken upon himself to just leave without my permission.
“That’s a total lack of respect, and unless Chiefs offer - in this football market - a transfer fee, Walusimbi is going nowhere… He will be disciplined by the club, and both Chiefs and his agent will be reported to CAF and FIFA for the illegal tapping of a player under contract.”
Football Manager, Bobby Motaung has confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs and the Kenyan club Gor Mahia are in talks to sign the Ugandan defender Godfrey Walusimbi.

On Monday, Kaizer Chiefs football manager, Bobby Motaung, denied that the club had broken Fifa’s rules in any way with their approach. “He is here at the village (club headquarters), and we are going about things the right way. We will make further announcements when we have agreed a deal with his club. But the player has not gone missing from his club. Maybe there was some confusion as the coach (Dylan Kerr) obviously wants to keep the player,” Motaung explained.
Chiefs seems eager to sure up their defence after failing to win in three Premiership clashes under new coach Givanni Solinas. The Soweto Giants opened their campaign with an encouraging 1-1 draw against defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, but subsequently slipped to a 3-1 loss to log-leader Bidvest Wits and a 1-1 draw against Baroka FC.
Yesterday Chiefs asked Bloemfontein Celtic to cut short Lorenzo Gordinho’s loan deal, but were denied. Celtic insisted that the player would stay until the end of his contract in January.
