Kaizer Chiefs are on a three-match winning streak, and things are getting better on the injury front as well ahead of tonight’s Absa Premiership clash against Highlands Park.
The Amakhosi announced on their website on Tuesday that midfielder George Maluleka is available for selection after recovering from a thigh injury.
Maluleka was the Man of the Match in his comeback to the team in the 2-0 win over Free State Stars last month, and will be keen to continue his good form against the Lions of the North at a sold-out Makhulong Stadium tonight (7.30pm kickoff).
Last week, Chiefs stated that defender Erick Mathoho had also overcome a groin problem that saw him sidelined for the past three matches.
Striker Leonardo Castro is still out with an ankle injury, while the Amakhosi said that Joseph Molangoane is on the road to recovery from a broken leg.
Despite the confidence in the Chiefs camp at the moment, coach Giovanni Solinas is wary of a Highlands Park side that are notoriously difficult to beat at the ‘Slaughter House’.
Owen da Gama’s side have yet to go down at home this season, and only suffered a single loss in the league to Free State Stars away.
“They have a fine side, considering their results against some of the top teams (with draws against log leaders Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns,” Solinas told the Chiefs website.
“They have some good players like Moeketsi Sekola, whom I coached at Free State Stars. They also have Mothobi Mvala, who is tricky to play against.”
Chiefs’ last game was the 2-0 win over AmaZulu on September 22, and the Italian mentor was pleased to have some time to work with his squad during the short break as a result of the MTN8 final.
“We exploited the break to work and improve our systems. Sometimes a mini-break is good to polish some of the areas in the team. We would have liked to keep the momentum, though,” Solinas said.
“We used this past week to consolidate several technical aspects of our game. It is always about continuously improving. The players are responding positively.”
