DURBAN – Former SA Under-20 captain Ayabulela Konqobe is set to earn a deal with AmaZulu.

IOL Sport have reliably been informed by a close source at Usuthu that Konqobe will start training with the team on Tuesday.

“Konqobe is at Usuthu’s club house. He will start training with the team tomorrow. They love him at the club, and chances are that he will sign,” a source said.

Konqobe had a stint with Usuthu when they were still campaigning in the National First Division, but departed from the club due to his off-field antics.

He then joined Thanda Royal Zulu.

Konqobe helped Thanda to gain promotion to the top-flight, before they sold their status to Usuthu.

The talented former Ajax Cape Town centre-back then joined Chippa United at the start of last season.

Upon joining Chippa, Usuthu were interested in bringing him back, but he ended up at the Chilli Boys.

Team manager at Usuthu, Qedi Dlamini, couldn’t confirm nor deny if they will be signing Konqobe.

“He is a top talent. I think every club would love to have a player of his calibre. We’ve spoken about him before. The last time I chatted to him was two weeks ago. He was in Pretoria, where he was studying.

“If an opportunity to bring him back arrives, we will love to take it, but he is not in Durban as we speak. Let us wait and see what will happen,” Dlamini explained.

Konqobe recently had a trial with Kaizer Chiefs, but failed to earn a deal at Amakhosi.
