CAPE TOWN – Wow, PSL teams better watch out for Chippa United in the 2018/19 season.
After making a number of signings in the off-season already, the Chilli Boys went another step further by unveiling Orlando Pirates trio Thabo Matlaba, Thamsanqa Sangweni and Bernard Morrison.
“Chippa United Executive Chairman Siviwe Mpengesi has confirmed the signing of Bernard Morrison, Thamsanqa Sangweni and Thabo Matlaba from Orlando Pirates,” the club announced on Twitter on Friday.
“The three players have been brought in not only to fill the gaps left by the departure of Ayabulela Konqobe, Sizwe Mdlinzo and Lucky Setelele earlier in the week, but to also bolster the squad and bring in more experienced players.
“The trio will join the rest of the team on their last day of pre-season in Johannesburg tomorrow, and will return to Nelson Mandela Bay on Wednesday for an afternoon training session.”
Pirates only commented on Sangweni’s departure on Friday, saying on their website: “Orlando Pirates would like to confirm that following a meeting with Thamsanqa Sangweni, both parties have agreed to his release to Chippa United.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club would like to wish Thami the best of luck in his future endeavours.”
Chippa had already made inroads in the transfer market over the last few weeks following the return of Dan Malesela as coach.
