DURBAN – Lamontville Golden Arrows will be without several key players when they face SuperSport United at Mbombela Stadium this afternoon.
Abafana Bes’thende will be without the services of Sandile Zuke, Danny Venter, Divine Lunga, Velemseni Ndwandwe and Mzwandile Buthelezi for the 3.30pm kickoff.
Arrows coach Clinton Larsen is not a worried man, though.
“What can you do? Injuries are part of the game. You can’t prevent them. The most important thing is to find a solution,” he said.
“The injuries have been freakish – broken toes, twisted ankles, whatever. But the injuries have opened up opportunities for other players to step up.”
Arrows are 10th on the log with 11 points after 10 league matches, while Matsatsantsa a Pitori are fourth with 14 points after eight outings.
Larsen is expecting a very tough afternoon. “Every game is difficult in the league. SuperSport have a lot of depth, and a lot of quality.
“If Dean Furman is not available, there’s Yeye (Reneilwe Letsholonyane), if there’s no Mnyamane (Thabo), you know that there’s Modiba (Aubrey).
“And if there’s no Grobler (Bradley), there’s James Keene.
“They have quality in all departments. They don’t rely on Diski players. They have internationals too.”
SuperSport are yet to lose at home this season across all competitions. “They have expressed their desire to compete for league honours, so they are the ones under pressure. No one is expecting us to beat them.
“We love these games against teams like Chiefs, Sundowns and SuperSport, and will go out there and give our best,” Larsen added.
Arrows have a decent away record, collecting points against Maritzburg, Cape Town City, Pirates and Free State Stars.
“Yes, we’ve done well away from home, but we also need to improve our home record,” the coach explained.
