JOHANNESBURG – Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has urged Confederation of African Football (CAF) to postpone the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches between Kenya and Comoros due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
"Based on the directive issued by the ministry of health, we have requested CAF to postpone our match against Comoros," FKF president, Nick Mwendwa, said.
"We understand why this may be a hard decision for CAF in that there will be World Cup and AFCON qualifiers leaving no open window to play these games, but I urge them to kindly consider our appeal."
Mwendwa said that Kenya U16 national team’s trip to Spain for the upcoming Mediterranean International Cup has also been called off.
Kenya is set to face Comoros in Nairobi on 25 March, and again in Moroni six days later in a tie whose result could determine whether Harambee Stars make a successive return to the continental championship set for Cameroon.
The ministry of sports has banned Kenyan athletes from travelling to any international sports events for the next 30 days.
All meetings, conferences and events of international nature in Kenya have been postponed.
So far no Coronavirus case has been reported in Kenya.
