DURBAN – Clinton Larsen has vowed to change the mentality of his Golden Arrows players who tend to only up their game against the so-called big guns.
Golden Arrows stunned Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the PSL at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday.
Limbikani Mzava scored a brace for Arrows, while Leonardo Castro netted a consolation for Amakhosi on a rainy evening.
Larsen wants his troops to show the same application against all their opponents.
“We are trying to get our players to change their mindset. These are names, Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. In the field of play, it is 11 versus 11. That’s how we want them to prepare,” Larsen said.
“I don’t think teams are afraid of the badge like it used to be in the 1980s. We look forward to these types of games.
“Our main concern is when we play Black Leopards and Polokwane City, where we sometimes think it is going to be easy, and complacency creeps in.
“We don’t get the work ethic which we saw tonight (Saturday).”
Abafana Bes’thende will next face Wits in the league in Johannesburg on December 12.
“They have now set the bar in terms of what they can deliver, and hopefully they will do that in the next game as well.
“Winning always gives you confidence, and we will need it because it is going to be tough against Wits in 10 days’ time,” Larsen said.
Arrows are now 10th on the standings, with 15 points after 13 games.
“If you look at the log and you go to Goals For (GF) and Goals Against (GA), that will tell you where our problems have been.
“In the GF column we are in the bottom six, and in GA, we are in the top six. Our Goals For is not like last season, where we were scoring goals for fun.

“That has been our problem this season. Even games against Orlando Pirates, Chippa United and Free State Stars, it is the games that we should have never ever have lost points.
“We dropped points because we couldn’t convert,” Larsen said.
