The United States (US) is contemplating the resettlement of ethnic minority Afrikaners who they believe are experiencing unjust racial discrimination in South Africa. This update was released by the US Embassy in South Africa on Thursday.

"Consistent with President Trump’s Executive Order on Addressing Egregious Actions of the Republic of South Africa, the US Department of State is coordinating with the Department of Homeland Security and implementing partners to consider eligibility for US refugee resettlement for disfavored ethnic minority Afrikaners in South Africa who are victims of unjust racial discrimination," the embassy said.

This comes a month after the US President Donald Trump halted the financial aid to South Africa and offered refugee status to Afrikaners over fears of land expropriation and discrimination.

The order also instructed the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security to take the necessary steps to give humanitarian aid—including resettlement and admission through the US Refugee Admissions Programme—priority for Afrikaners in South Africa who are subjected to "unfair racial discrimination".

This was fueled after President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the Expropriation Act. According to Trump, the government intended to take adverse actions against white people

Additionally, he claimed that the policies were purposefully designed to erode business, education, and equal opportunity while encouraging divisive discourse and disproportionate violence against historically underprivileged landowners.

The Act allows the government to take land and other property for public purposes.
