Three police officers stationed at Benoni Flying Squad in Gauteng were granted R2,000 bail each following their arrest on kidnapping and extortion allegations.

Stella Mabida, 38, Rodney Ramoraka, 43, and Vusi Nhlapho, 36, were arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) after they allegedly extorted R42,000 from a salon owner.

The trio appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

According to IPID spokesperson Phaladi Shuping it is alleged that the officers went to a salon in Norkem Park Mall on November 24, 2024 at around 6pm and questioned the owner, Nikiwe Dube  about her papers.

"She told them her salon papers were on the wall, and they then asked for her identity document, which she handed to the police officers.

"They allegedly told her that they wanted to search her house and on arrival, they asked for the safe and money. They demanded R60,000 from her, but she paid them a total of R42,000."

Shuping said the incident was later reported to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and the three police officers were arrested on December 2, 2024.

The matter was adjourned to January 30 for further investigation.
