Volkswagen has issued separate recalls for various Amarok and Tiguan models, affecting almost 20 000 vehicles in South Africa.
AMAROK
In the Amarok's case, it's an immediate recall that involves 15 500 single cab and double cab bakkies fitted with 2.0 TDI engines and built between the 2010 launch and June of this year.
The company warns that some of the aforementioned models may be vulnerable to fuel pipe leaks within the engine compartment.
VWSA says that Amarok owners will be contacted and asked to bring their vehicles in for precautionary repairs, which will include the fitment of a chafe protector.
TIGUAN
The Tiguan recall campaign is less critical and will coincide with the owner’s next scheduled service.
It involves 4270 vehicles in South Africa and pertains to the exterior lights and gearbox.
VW found that in isolated cases a fuse may trip, causing one of the vehicle's two light circuits to fail. Service centres will remedy this by fitting a stronger fuse.
It's also been discovered that using synthetic gearbox oil in models fitted with the seven-speed DSG (DQ200) transmission was not such a good idea and could lead to electrical malfunctions within the gearbox power supply. Dealers will thus replace the synthetic oil with mineral oil.
