Wolfsburg/Johannesburg - Volkswagen has announced a recall for more than a million Jetta and Beetle models in China and the US, but only a handful of Beetle models are affected in South Africa.
The recall involves the rear axle of models built between 2011 and 2013 as a VW spokesperson abroad told news agency AFP:
“In case of an accident, the axle could be damaged. The axle is secure but we are recalling the vehicles because we cannot be absolutely sure that all our customers will go to a repair shop if an axle is damaged,” he said.
IOL followed up on the local recall and this was the response from VWSA: “Only the Beetle 1.2 TSI 77kW derivative is affected. The recall only affects cars that have had rear accidents or incidents. Field monitoring has revealed incidents of deformed rear trailing arm on cars that are affected.”
