Volkswagen has announced the cleanest, coolest (in terms of global warming) versions yet of its sexy Scirocco and plutocratic Passat CC, in the form of BlueMotion Technology models.
VWSA says there are “no plans at present”, however, to bring these models to South Africa.
Entry-level Scirocco models in Europe with the two-litre, 103kW engine now have stop/start and battery regeneration systems, making them the cleanest and most fuel efficient Sciroccos to date, whether with the standard six-speed manual or optional six-speed DSG gearbox.
VW claims lower fuel consumption, down from 5.1 to 4.5 litres/100km on the combined cycle (5.5 to 4.9 in DSG models), and lower emissions, down from 134 to 118g/km (145 to 129 DSG).
The company has also announced revisions to the 125kW, two-litre TDI turbodiesel in the Scirocco GT, lowering fuel consumption from 5.3 to 5.1 litres/100km (5.6 to 5.5 DSG) and reducing CO2 emissions reducing from 139 to 134g/km (147 to 144 DSG).
The Passat CC line-up has also been updated, with BlueMotion models replacing the previous diesels, bringing regenerative braking and stop/start systems to the four-door coupé for the first time.
They help the 103kW, two-litre TDI Passat CC achieve a combined-cycle 4.8 litres/100km, down from 5.7, with CO2 emissions cut from 146 to 125g/km. The 125kW two-litre diesel version also boasts improved figures with consumption down to 4.9 litres/100km, or 5.5 if you insist on the car shifting for itself.
