Rrrr… quickest Golf Cabriolet ever

It feels odd reporting on a new version of the Golf 6 when the Golf 7 has just been launched, but it appears the Golf Cabriolet still has some life left in it. Some very potent life, mind you.

After showing the concept version last year, VW has now released the first details and pictures of the production version.

No surprises under the bonnet, where the fastest open-top Golf ever is shoved along by a 195kW version of VW's 2-litre direct injection turbopetrol.

This power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox and a 0-100km/h sprint can be achieved in 6.4 seconds, says VW. The top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

As with its hatch sibling, the R cabrio tackles the automotive vanity parade with a bespoke front bumper, bi-xenon headlights, side sill extensions and a gloss-black treatment for the grille, mirrors and rear diffuser. Let's not forget the 18-inch 'Talladega' alloy wheels - which can be had with a 19-inch diameter if you open those pockets.

The cabin is decked out with four individual sports seats wrapped in 'Vienna Cool Leather' as well as alloy pedal caps and 'Silver Lane' alloy inlays.
