Volkswagen's Caddy has been "enhanced and refined" to the point where its maker is comfortable calling it a new generation.
This fourth iteration of VW's practical compact van is now available in South Africa, in a wide range of derivatives and priced between R229 400 and R387 300, with Panel Van and Crew Bus versions aimed at commercial clients and Trendline models catering for private buyers. If that's not trendy enough for you, the Alltrack crossover versions are set to hit our shores early next year.
On the outside the front end of the Caddy has been completely redesigned, although it retains a decidedly familiar look, while new taillights and a restyled tailgate freshen up the rear. A brand new dashboard creates a more upscale vibe inside, and Trendline models a generously equipped with standard amenities including a Composition Colour six-speed audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, leather steering wheel, electric windows and mirrors and air conditioning. Standard kit across the board, including Panel Van and Crew Bus models, extends to ESP stability control, Multi-Collision Braking System and ABS, while 103kW versions get Fatigue Detection too - which remains optional in other models.
The engine line-up carries over from the previous line-up, although the 1.6-litre normally aspirated petrol engine has been beefed up slightly from 75kW to 81kW. As before, there's also a 2-litre TDI engine available in 81kW/250Nm and 103kW/320Nm output levels.
