Jaguar is poised to launch its first 4X4 as part of an ‘aggressive’ new product offensive.
The sporty five-door ‘crossover’ from the prestigious British car firm - better known for high-performance sports-cars and luxury limousines - is to be unveiled as a prototype at the Frankfurt motor show in September before rolling off UK production lines in 2016, priced from about £30 000 (R460 000).
Early details were revealed in the latest edition of the motoring magazine Autocar.
The five-door crossover will be aimed at younger and more affluent families “with children and child-seats”.
Jaguar bosses say it is part of their ‘aggressive product development plans’; they’re also planning a new ‘baby’ sedan and a range of small fuel-efficient coupes from £20 000 (R307 000) to follow the new F-Type sports car.
Experts believe the new car will be based on an all-aluminium platform it will share with the next-generation Range Rover Evoque and will be built at the Land Rover factory in Solihull rather than in Jaguar’s plant at Castle Bromwich in Birmingham. - Daily Mail
