Jaguar has reiterated its emotional connection to clay models by showing off a unique full-sized sculpture of its C-X16 concept at the Clerkenwell Design Week in the UK.
Jaguar says this clay model reveals the artistry involved in sculpting the cars of the future, but the company's advanced design director, Julian Thomson, is quick to point out that this doesn't mean its design process is old fashioned:
“Jaguar is one of the most technologically advanced companies in the field of product development but we still believe in the sense of artistry. Emotional connections are at the heart of our vehicles and the traditional process of working with clay with some of the best sculptors in the world allows us to refine them into the purest surfaces.”
Last month Jaguar confirmed that it will introduce an all-new sports car called the F-Type in 2013 and this is set to be closely based on the C-X16 concept car.
The new two-seater uses Jaguar's proven all-aluminium construction and will be launched with a range of petrol engines - including a completely new engine family - and the company has promised “stunning sports-car performance”.
One of those aforementioned engines is a new supercharged V6 with direct injection and it'll be offered in output levels of 250kW and 280kW. The production model is set to be unveiled later this year.
