Senden, Germany - Forget about Wolfsburg's family-friendly 'stretch hatch' - this is what BBM Motorsport is talking about when it refers to a Golf Plus.
It's a VW Golf 7 plus an extra 51kW. Yummy.
What BBM has done is to tweak the standard 170kW two-litre TSI turbopetrol four with an ECU chip software upgrade, a drainpipe-sized Supersprint exhaust system with free-flowing sports catalysers and 100mm tailpipes, and high-volume carbon-fibre intake plumbing.
The target was 300 horsepower - German 'CV' horses, that is, marginally smaller than the original Imperial 'BHP' stallions - but still the equivalent of a seriously muscular 221kW from 6100 to 6700 revs and 440Nm from 2150 to 4750rpm.
BUT POWER IS NOTHING WITHOUT CONTROL
And that's taken care of by DDC coilover shocks with electronic damping regulation and electronically adjustable ride height, from 25mm to 50mm lower than standard, at your command.
Stopping is entrusted to 328mm ventilated discs with monobloc BBK four-piston callipers made by Stoptech, inside a set of BBS 19" CH-R forged-alloy rims in metallic grey with polished stainless-steel kerb scuff trims.
LOOKING GOOD, KID
And finally, the whole car's been wrapped in Monza red with striking BBM graphics by SFT Carwrap Ibbenbueren.
Yes Cyril, we know it's all chequebook engineering, but somebody (in this case BBM Motorsport) - had to make it all work, and the end result hangs together very nicely.
