Da'Vine Joy Randolph urged people not to "limit" themselves when it comes to fashion.
The 'Holdovers' star has appeared on numerous best dressed lists during awards season this year and she admitted she loves to "have fun" with what she wears and loves to express herself through her clothes.
She told Variety: "I just like to have fun. And I just want people to know, 'Don’t limit yourself. Find what you’re into. Play. Don’t stay stuck with one thing.'
"You know why I love clothes so much? Because it’s connected to one’s personality and sense of self."
And the 'Rustin' actress believes taking the time to find something she feels good in is just another way of "practising self-love".
She added: "You don’t have to be as obsessive about it as I am, but I think it’s a good practice of self-love too, of like, 'What colours do I feel good in? And, oh, these are my favourite pair of jeans.' It’s taking a sense of pride in oneself. And I think that’s healthy and good for anybody."
Da'Vine sat next to Jennifer Lopez during Paris Fashion Week and was able to have a deep and meaningful chat with the 'On the Floor' hitmaker.
Asked what they had talked about, she said: "Life, love, prosperity, success. She was starting to talk about her new project that’s just now come out. It looks really dope. I need to check it out."
The 37-year-old actress grew up in Philadelphia and will always be "so grateful" for the "very distinct" qualities of the city.
She said: "It was the best. It was exactly what I needed.
"There’s something very unique about North East cities and communities, even in a film like 'The Holdovers'.
"It’s a very distinct culture, behaviour, attitude, mannerisms … I love that.
"They don’t have that anywhere else besides that North East pocket. And so whether Boston, New York, Philly, I’m so grateful that I was born and raised and cultivated in a city such as that.
"I just love the people. They celebrate life and they champion underdogs, and I take great pride in that."
