It still feels like yesterday when former Miss South Africa first runner-up (2001) Sonia Booth crashed the internet after her then-husband Matthew Booth cheated on her with his trainer in 2022.
At first, Bongani Mthombeni and Booth denied having an affair until Mthombeni’s then-husband confirmed that they ate the cheesecake supposedly baked by Booth.
After their affair was exposed, Booth and Mthombeni both left their partners and have been together since.
The couple also blended their families and if you go through their Instagram accounts, they post each other regularly and cannot keep their hands off each other.
During the festive season, they went to Mauritius with Booth’s children, whom Mthombeni calls “our boys”.
“A milestone year is deserving of a milestone destination experience! Naturally, with my love and our boys. Love, romance, opulence, indulgence, relaxation, exercise (obviously ), nature, a teenage birthday, quality family time and reunions with friends,” wrote Mthombeni.
While most of her followers are happy that their affair transitioned into a serious relationship, some social media folks aren’t so pleased.
“They bore me so much because they gaslighted the living sh*t out of Sonia, even threatened to sue her for defamation. And now they're shamelessly popping out,” said @LWavezzz.
Another X user, @2meleng, said: “I’m not saying these things don’t happen but that gaslighting they did ko [to] Sonia is what truly upsets me. Fall in love and leave. Yes, but don’t make me look crazy for calling out the terrible ways you went about it.”
Some added that Mthombeni and Booth’s relationship proves that sometimes a man can leave his wife for you as his mistress and live happily ever after.
“Just because he cheated on Sonia doesn't mean that his relationship with Bongani will end in tears. Sometimes, this is their happily ever after. I mean, Camilla is Queen,” said @Ms_LebouxM.
We’ve seen it with Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz so, yes, sometimes a married spouse can leave their marriage for you but you must be careful because they might cheat on you as well.
