Rand Water's planned maintenance to enhance flexibility and availability of the Eikenhof system that started on 13 December 2024 has reached a 48-hour milestone and progressing well and estimated to be completed on schedule.

As communicated previously, this maintenance is meant to correct the historical design of the engine rooms at Eikenhof. Currently, Eikenhof has three (3) engine rooms that were designed to be interrelated - when these were designed many years ago, the design was fit for purpose for that era because Eikenhof was supplying water to limited customers. However, with the increasing demand, there is a need to make the engine rooms independent to enhance their flexibility and availability.

As communicated to our stakeholders previously, the timing of the maintenance was strategically selected as schools, many industries and businesses are closed, something which makes consumption manageable. Manageable consumption impacts positively on the recovery and stability of the system. We have been working closely with our impacted customers, and we can report that they have put contigency measures in place and have been providing alternative water supply in areas where the supply is/ was impacted.

Should consumers wish to get an update on contigency measures that have been put in place by impacted municipalies, please visit your local Municipality's social media platforms and/or websites.

We wish to thank stakeholders and customers for understanding that maintenance of the water infrastructure is necessary to ensure sustainable water provision.

Continuous updates on the maintenance and recovery will be provided.
