A young woman, by the name of Dr Celiwe Dada, recently went viral after sharing her story on TikTok about how she was paying R23 000 monthly for a Mercedes Benz that was wanted by her ex-husband.
Her story of how she mismanaged her finances, all to please her unemployed husband caught the attention of many social media users.
Speaking on 5FM’s 5 Drive with Zanele Potelwa, Nick Archibald, Jude Van Wyk and Yanga Mjoli explained that she is doing well after receiving many calls about her well-being, especially from her loved ones.
Potelwa asked Dr Dada if she regrets spending the money she did on a car, and admitted that it was absurd to have spent so much money on an item that depreciates. “I definitely do 100%, I do, I wish at that time I would have known better and been able to financially savvy and say I say I understand but how about we maybe buy a house.”
What I love about Dr Celiwe Dada is that she is owning up her flaws and not pretending to be perfect like many of you here. She is taking ownership of her mistakes and sharing with others so that they don't make the same mistakes. Stop judging her. You are not perfect 😒
Dr. Dada confirmed that the cars were in her name, as she had a credit score, while her ex-husband didn't. She also confirmed that the car is gone, as it caused a lot of strain in their relationship as their family grew, and financial stress took a toll on Dr. Dada.
When asked if she expected her story to go viral, Dr Dada said yes she did as she is a doctor and was in an abusive career.
“I did expect that my story was gonna get traction as people perceive medicine as a noble career and wouldn't expect someone who has that kind of career and can be independent stay through such a traumatic experience.”
However, she didn't expect that it would trend for so long and there would be so many social media detectives who would dig into her story.
In a recent social media post after many people expressed their concern for Dr Dada’s well-being assured the public that she was in a much better position. She shared how she is living the single life that she has skipped out on after getting married young.
Dr Dada reflected on how she was meant to be single, enjoy her life, and learn her money when she started working, however, she got married young and was not streetwise.
“I am living the singleness life I skipped! I was supposed to be single for a while and enjoy myself and learn my money when I started working.
“Kodwa mna ndatshata ndimncinci ndingekho "streetwise"ngabla nina🤣.That was in my 20s, it is yesterday! This is my 30s and I am not that girl anymore❤️”.
