Christina Aguilera is bringing Y2K vibes into 2024, collaborating with Sabrina Carpenter and Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her self-titled debut album.
The initiative is part of Spotify’s ongoing Anniversary video series and was released on Monday, September 23.
It sees the musical megastar collaborating with the “Espresso” hitmaker as well as MGK reimagining renditions of some of her biggest hits.
This includes songs from the 43-year-old’s self-titled debut studio album “Christina Aguilera”, which was released in 1999.
The special video project, which was filmed at Spotify’s Mateo studios in Los Angeles, has exclusive clips as well as the full tracklist, including “What A Girl Wants” with Carpenter and “Genie in a Bottle” with MGK.
Aguilera also gave a modern twist to some of her classic hits for this tracklist including the Live Spotify Anniversaries Versions of “Come On Over”, “Obvious”, "I Turn To You” and ‘Reflection”.
The popstar has become a household name over the decades since her debut album went on to achieve multi-platinum status and won her the Best New Artist Grammy in 2000s.
She has since won five more golden gramophones as she continues to reinvent herself in both the music and fashion worlds, as she shed her innocent teenage look for a more sexier image.
As one of the best-selling artists of all time, Aguilera is looking to reintroduce some of her best hits to a new generation of fans.
She recently told “Rolling Stone” magazine that she was thrilled about her Spotify Anniversary Special.
"I wanted to celebrate the 25th anniversary of my debut album in a way that brings together the past and present,” she was quoted as saying.
“I’ve always enjoyed reimagining my songs with different styles and audiences as well as playing with sounds and arrangements that showcase how all music can be timeless."
She added that working with the streaming giant had unleashed her "sweetest career memories."
"Recording this project with Spotify was both magical and nostalgic, resurfacing some of my sweetest career memories.”
“I laughed, cried, reconnected with old friends and made some very special new ones. I hope this anniversary gift is just as special for you to watch as it was for me to make."
Meanwhile, Carpenter, who was born the same year that Aguilera dropped her debut album, told “Paper” that the pop star was also her icon, who had influenced many of her works and sounds.
"I love Christina Aguilera. She was one of my very first idols and icons. I was 11 years old and you couldn't get her name out of my mouth. She's very special to me. Those songs raised me."
