Brad Pitt is set to return as laid-back stuntman Cliff Booth in a new project connected to Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".
Online reports say that Tarantino has written the script for this new venture, but has chosen to pass on directing duties to the acclaimed filmmaker David Fincher, who previously collaborated with Pitt in classics like "Fight Club" and "Seven".
While the plot remains under wraps, industry insiders suggest that this new project will not be a traditional sequel but rather a "derivative" of the original.
This development comes on the heels of Tarantino’s 2021 “novelisation” of the film, which provided fans with deeper insight into Booth's backstory, enriching the narrative established in the film.
Originally, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" captivated audiences with its alternative-history portrayal of the Manson Family and the tragic fate of actress Sharon Tate.
Pitt's character, Cliff Booth, was instrumental in this reimagined history, earning him the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, while the film itself garnered significant acclaim, including accolades for Best Production Design and nominations for Best Picture and Best Director.
Shifting gears from the film's original producers, Sony Pictures, the upcoming project will also make its mark on Netflix.
Interestingly, this project may also connect to Tarantino’s shelved film concept, "The Movie Critic", which was purportedly set in the 1970s and was rumoured to feature Booth amongst its cast.
With Pitt's performance and the elaborate world he will explore, there's widespread curiosity surrounding how this new script may weave existing characters into fresh storylines.
It is yet to be confirmed whether Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie will reprise their respective roles as Rick Dalton and Sharon Tate.
In addition to this project, fans can expect to see Pitt as a Formula One driver in the eagerly awaited film "F1", directed by Joseph Kosinski.
