South African musician, actor and director, Timmy Kwebulana, has passed away after a short illness on Thursday, September 19.

The Kwebulana family confirmed his death through a statement.

“We give thanks for his life, and all his contributions to us as a family, and to the arts and entertainment industry for almost six decades. May his legacy continue to inspire us and those who are still to come,” it read.

The family also acknowledged the outpouring of heartfelt messages of condolences, but requested “some time to gather and organise logistics and a way forward.”

“Further details will be announced in due course. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.”

The 83-year-old Cape Town-born actor was best known for roles on TV shows such as “Fishy Feshuns”, “Shooting Stars”, “The Heart of the Matter” and “Mazinyo Dot Q” among others.

Kwebulana also guest starred in an episode of the Mzansi Magic comedy, “Chandies” in 2012.

His film performances included “Kin” and the 1986 movie, “Nag van Vrees”.

The veteran actor is also starring in the upcoming Christmas movie, “Homecoming”, alongside multi-award winning actress, Thoko Ntshinga.

The film is scheduled to release in October.

Tributes poured in on social media following the news of Kwebulana’s demise.
