News of the death of legendary South African actress Michelle Botes, 63, sent shockwaves throughout the country as her colleagues, friends and loved ones paid tribute to her.
The actress had a two and a half year battle with advanced multiple myeloma, a rare, incurable type of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow.
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) released a statement expressing its deep sadness by the passing of the renowned actress.
Botes was a household name, celebrated for her unforgettable portrayal of the iconic villain Cherel de Villiers-Haines in the SABC3 soapie “Isidingo”.
“Her exceptional talent brought the character to life, captivating audiences across the nation and leaving an indelible mark on South African television,” said the broadcaster.
Beyond “Isidingo”,Botes showcased her remarkable range in other SABC productions, including “Family Secrets" on SABC1, where she played Dawn Pretorius, as well as “Konings” and “Onder Draai die Duiwel Rond" on SABC2.
“Her work reflected her dedication, versatility, and commitment to her craft. The SABC extends its deepest condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
“Michelle Botes’ contributions to the arts will forever be remembered, and her legacy will continue to inspire.”
Botes also captivated audiences with her remarkable talent on M-Net’s “Legacy” and kykNET’s “Binnelanders”.

Actress Kgomotso Christopher who starred with Botes on "Legacy" and “Isidingo” paid tribute to the late actress, she shared a carousel of videos and pictures on Instagram.
“That you are now part of the “those not here “…that you’ve transitioned…is devastating. We are truly heartbroken. Our beloved Mich “Mama Mich,”…all we have are the beautiful memories with you and your incredible body of work and legacy in the arts.
Christopher called it a “blessing, privilege and honour” to have learnt from Botes, firstly as an upcoming actress on “Isidingo”,and their reunion as Mrs Price and Mrs Price.
“Soft-spoken, shy, sweet, gentle, beautiful inside and out, never wanting to be the centre of attention. The consummate professional. You taught us the importance of letting one’s work and craft speak for you as an artist…it was never about the fame, always the work and passion for one’s craft.
