Durban — A man was beaten to death by a community after he allegedly raped a goat and tried to rape an elderly woman in KwaZulu-Natal.
The incident happened in Mtunzini in the early hours of Monday in the Qwayinduku area of Mtunzini, northern KZN.
Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said it was alleged by a 61-year-old woman that while she was sleeping in her house, she heard someone break the window to her house.
She told the intruder that she would use her bush knife if he tried to come in through the window that he had already broken.
“When the 21-year-old failed to enter the house he turned and raped a goat that belonged to the woman. When she heard her goat crying she woke her son who was sleeping in another house and the man was caught in action,” Ngcobo said the woman alleged.
“It is alleged by the woman’s son that he alerted the community and the suspect was beaten to death by the community.”
Ngcobo said police were called out to the scene where a 21-year-old man was found with head and face injuries. He was declared dead at the scene.
“A case of murder was registered at Mtunzini SAPS and the matter is under investigation,” Ngcobo said.
