CAPE TOWN - Britian’s Queen Elizabeth will not return to Buckingham Palace and will live permanently at Windsor Castle.
According to reports, the 95-year-old moved into her “weekend residence” at the beginning of the pandemic.
She will now only travel to London for day trips to her palace in the capital.
The move is also reportedly prompted by a 10-year refurbishment which is currently underway at Buckingham Palace, making it impractical for her to live there during this time.
The Queen has experienced a number of health concerns in recent months, and most recently was diagnosed with Covid-19 in February, forcing her to cancel a number of engagements.
She had pulled out of the Remembrance Day ceremony on November 14 at the Cenotaph war memorial in London with a sprained back and was back at work at Windsor three days later.
In late October, Elizabeth withdrew from attending the COP26 summit in Glasgow following advice from doctors to rest.
She also spent a night in hospital on October 20 for the first time in years for what Buckingham Palace termed 'preliminary investigations'. She returned to Windsor Castle the next day.
A royal source said the queen had stayed in hospital for practical reasons and that her medical team had taken a cautious approach.
British media had in 2021 also reported that Elizabeth had given up her daily dry martini and even been forced to give up horseriding.
